Provisional inclusion standard

A product lists when most of these hold. Discovery standard — not a lab certificate. Category rules below refine snacks, personal care, and home care.

Seven inclusion rules

  1. 1

    Full transparency

Complete ingredient list (or INCI for personal care) publicly available on pack or brand site.

  2. 2

    No junk markers

Food: no artificial colours, artificial flavours, or hydrogenated fats; no HFCS. Personal care: no undisclosed “parfum” dumps where avoidable; prefer fragrance-free or essential-oil–disclosed.

  3. 3

    Lower processing preference

Food ideally NOVA 1–3; avoid products whose primary pitch is vague “toxin-free” without formulation substance.

  4. 4

    India-first

Prefer Indian-made / India-branded; imported only if clearly relevant and widely available in India.

  5. 5

    Signal certifications

FSSAI (baseline), India Organic/NPOP, USDA Organic, COSMOS/Ecocert, B Corp, USDA BioPreferred, or specific packaging claims (e.g. home-compostable, not “eco-friendly”).

  6. 6

    Buyability

Available on Amazon.in and/or major q-comm (Blinkit / Zepto / Instamart) in metros.

  7. 7

    Anti-hero exclusions

No Mamaearth-style mass “toxin-free” marketing-first heroes; no protein-bar clones unless uniquely clean and category-filling; no ASCI / greenwashing-heavy brands as Phase-1 heroes.

How we use caveats

High sugar, palm oil (even if disclosed), baking soda in deo, plastic backsheets on pads, etc. can still list if the rest of the standard is strong — but the caveat must be visible to the user.
